  5. Please and Thank You! A 1969 BMW 2002 that has been converted to a plug-in electric vehicle.* Apparently these cars are a hot commodity for converting to run off the electric grid. *Here is another write up of a guy that pays about 2.5 cents a mile. *If math serves me right, that’s comparable to about 160 miles to the gallon, at $4 a gallon. 9. This is the "Old Gal" not long after I brought her home for the first time. I am at work and don't have any recent pictures but today she doesn't look much different on the exterior other than the new tires and painted wheels.
  10. Mutt, Take a look at this site: Color Chip Selection That is the same paint chip chart for '37 Buicks that we have in the AACA Library. My 37 Business Coupe was originally painted Sudan Blue but a previous owner painted it a much lighter blue. Eventually I will repaint the whole car Sudan Blue but last summer I had the wheels painted Sudan Blue. I got the PPG paint from TCPGlobal. They were quick to ship and it was my first lesson that paint is not cheap. Local paint shops did not have a modern formula and I didn't have enough of a flat sample that they could scan. I was very pleased with the finished wheels & I am happy I had someone else paint them for me. Here is a picture of my finished wheels.
  11. Sorry it has taken me so long to post more photos. I don't get to scan the forums nearly as much as I would like. I don't think I posted the attached pictures before.
  12. Hello! The restoration of the AACA Bookmobile continues at full speed. One item that we need help locating is an oil filter as seen in the picture below. It clamps to the intake manifold and has to be one for a 6 cylinder engine - either a 216 or 235. The filter for the V-8 will not work. Do you have one or know someone who might? Interested in donating or selling it to us? Send a message or give us a call at the library. 717-534-2082 Thanks for your help!! -Chris
  13. For the run between my carb & distributor I got copper tubing from my local Ace Hardware and sleeve nuts from NAPA. Cheap & easy!
  14. Tomorrow is the third week of our Saturday hours . Even if you aren't a current AACA member onsite research is FREE. At the very least, stop in and say hello. The library is just below 70-degrees year-round and a great place to beat the heat!
  15. Thats exactly what I am using Mark. Goes on purple and dries clear. I think I am going to make an extra set and throw them in the glove box just in case the current set fails miles away from home.
  16. Well, last night I started the Buick up and after a few seconds it died again as described. I was looking in the engine compartment when it died and gas started coming out the accelerator pump shaft and also a little port next to it. So, thinking I had too much gas I really set my floats low.........then the same thing. Since I had new floats with POR-15 I didn't think that was the issue, but it was. I guess I didn't seal them well enough because they didn't float and when I squeezed them I could see that gasoline had penetrated them. Now I will try super glue on new cork and hope for the best. Thanks for the suggestions, they are all quite helpful for a newbie like me. Chris
  17. I made new floats (and covered them with POR-15) and my leaking issue was a result of my float settings. Now my carburetor doesn't leak at the bowl cover but I am having trouble keeping it running at low RPM after the car warms up. She starts right up and idles fine. Then, after a few minutes, a hear what sounds like a sucking sound out of the top of the carburetor and the engine slowly bogs down until it stops altogether. If I press the accelerator and keep the RPMs high the engine runs fine Perhaps I have my floats too far the other way now and the fuel pump can't keep up at low RPM? Anyone have a Carter WDO for sale? :-)
  18. Thanks guys! I spent all weekend bending, flaring & installing new brake lines (no leaks there!!!) so I didn't get to address the carb. I will try early this week.
  19. I am getting a leak from my carburetor bowl cover where it meets the bowl. I have the screws very tight but I dont know if the leak is from a bad gasket, warped cover or bad float setting. Any tips on telling the difference? I did check the cover with a straight-edge and it was flat when I had it off. Thanks, -Chris
  20. We are happy to announce that the AACA Library & Research Center will be introducing Saturday hours beginning June 16th. We will be open 8am-4pm and we plan to do this year-round. For those of you who can't make it in during the week you now have no excuse -- we expect to see you! -Chris
  21. Randy, I got my cork from corkstore.com. The exact thing I got was a sanding block for $1.91. Sanding Waxing Cork Blocks Send me your address via private message and I will send you two pieces of cork that you can use. Do you have a good pattern to use to cut them? If not, I will cut them for you. I used a bandsaw for all of the cuts. I just put my finished floats back in my carburetor yesterday and everything works well although I am on the lookout for a replacement Carter WDO.
