  1. Sir, thank you, but I am seeking a '46 - '48 Buick Super Sedan. Your listing rightly belongs in the Cadillac cars for sale forum. If possible, could you please remove your offering from this thread? I would appreciate it.
  2. Thanks, John, appreciate learning that. I ran a couple of transmissions shops back in the early '70's and recall still getting a share of of Dynaflows, Slim Jims, and Hydra-matics. Dynaflow was certainly the smoothest transmission ever, though the design did sacrifice some efficiency.
  3. Thanks Tom, just messaged you with my phone number. Looking forward to your call
  4. If someone comes across a decent #3 '46-'48 Super sedan w/manual shift, I'd be grateful to know about it. Stuck in WI. Thanks!
  5. Looking for a well-maintained #3 '46-'48 Super sedan, manual shift. Last year we moved to northern WI from our 30-year home in the country outside Madison, WI. No more 40x60 shop, so we had to bid farewell to the 6 remaining cars in our collection. The '46 silver Roadmaster was our favorite. The plan was to eventually find just one old Buick after putting up a garage at the new place. Almost pulled the trigger on a '40 Special about 4 hours away, but didn't.
  6. Yep. Difference being, I'm grateful 😀
  7. Last summer my wife and I moved from the house we built outside Madison, WI 25 years ago, to a lake house in the northwoods of WI, near the vacation town of Minocqua. I had a 50x60 shop at the Madison place, but only a small garage up here. Nowhere to keep the collection, so they all went to good homes. The silver '46 Roadmaster was our favorite, and tough to part with. I thought I'd be done with the pastime after 30 years, but I decided it would be OK to build another small garage. And, if I were to limit myself to just one old car, a well kept pre-war Buick sedan would be it. On Saturday, I'm heading to MN to pick up a '40 Special owned by a gentleman since 2009. Here is the straight 8 exhaust manifold fix he wrote up some time ago. This, along with the 5 page detailed account of everything he'd done on the Special since 2009 told me I'd be adopting the right pre-war Buick. I'll now be on the hunt for the old iron community in this part of the northwoods. If any of you are in or around the Minocqua area, I'd very much appreciate hearing from you. For right now, the speedometer needs going through. Any recommendations for where to send it would be welcome. Back in the game. Best, Chris Rewey
  8. About 7 years ago I purchased the '41 Olds that was featured in Hemmings back in 2010. It's a great car. Along with the car came 21 boxes of parts and quite a few loose parts. Many of these are NOS. The previous owner had the Olds for many years, and enjoyed buying spares whenever he found them. He also prepared a detailed 12 page list of what's in each box. At some point I'll be selling the car, but for now I'm going to be selling the boxes of parts as a package. Here is the 12 page list: https://chrisrewey.widen.net/s/6qghsmpbmf/41-olds-parts-list I did sell the steering column and gearbox. Otherwise, I haven't had to use any of the parts. Rather than set a price I'm going to solicit best offers. We leave WI for FL around mid Nov and will be there until late March, so if we do strike a deal someone will need to pick up the boxes and loose parts before then, or after we return next spring. Thanks, Chris Rewey Verona, WI chrisrewey@gmail.com (608) 692-9597
  9. Reluctantly selling our Cadillac, to be followed by a few others in our collection in the coming few years. The Cadillac is perhaps the most valuable, and the only full classic we have. Here's where you may view photos and my contact info: https://goo.gl/u2RfLN Serial # 7340925. The car has zero rust or rust repair, and the original low mileage may be confirmed by supplied documentation: When registered in 1995 by the owner previous to me, the State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles registration listed the Cadillac as having 39,700 miles. When I purchase the car it had 40,100 miles. It now has 40,898 miles. Obviously, it's not being driven enough. The original interior is near flawless (prior owner said the seats still had dealer-installed vinyl covers when he bought it). The fenders still carry the original paint. The car starts, runs and drives smoothly and quietly. Work I have done or had done: carburetor rebuilt new fuel pump fender skirts added new complete clutch assembly plugs and plug wires replaced brakes checked and adjusted and brake fluid renewed new voltage regulator generator rebuilt backflushed cooling system Various small miscellaneous repairs
  10. Hi Bernie, Many thanks for the fix. We loosened the pressure plate bolts, and there was a "snap!" and the plate broke free. I'm going to leave the clutch pedal depressed over the winter. Thanks, Chris
  11. Thanks Bernie, the TOB is free. Going to try loosening and tapping again, or remove the fork to get more room to slide the PP back. PP completely encloses the clutch plate. No chance of any prying unless the PP is backed up enough. Thanks for the advice, will report back! Chris
  12. The clutch plate won't release from the flywheel on my '46 Roadmaster. My mechanic has restored and worked on a number of 40's Buicks, and he hasn't seen this problem before. The entire assembly was replaced with Bob's Automobilia parts less than 1000 miles ago, rear main replaced and flywheel resurfaced. I put the car away in good running order last fall, and started/moved it in the shop a few times this last winter with no issues. Come spring, the problem just appeared. This is the first I've had a chance to get it up to my mechanic's shop and on a hoist. We've started it in gear on the hoist and tapped the brake a number of times (both slowing it and killing the motor), thinking that would free it up. No change. Can't get at the clutch plate without pulling back the pressure plate. Seems that the next step will be pulling it apart, so I was hoping another big straight 8 owner had encountered this problem at some point. Thanks, Chris
  13. Thanks Jim and Dick! Makes perfect sense, now. A previous owner may have just taken out the mechanical gauge and left the sending unit laying there in case anyone wanted to hook one up again. Not hurting anything, but I'm not sure if I am enterprising enough to tuck one into the clock housing. Sure sounds nice though! Sure appreciate the replies - Chris
  14. I bought this '64 over the winter, and with my mechanic's help have gotten it back in order. For the number of times I've had the air filter cover off, I was surprised yesterday to finally see the temperature sensor laying on the right valve cover. What th'? The coil tube looks intact going back into the firewall. Where on the block is the sensor installed? I'm not a stranger to bulbs failing, so I'm wondering if a previous owner might have replaced it with an electric unit, or just (more likely) plugged it with a compression fitting. I'd value learning other members' experiences with temp sensors on 1st gen Rivieras. Thanks, Chris
  15. Thanks, Tom and Ed for the support and suggestions. I will definitely let you know what turns up. I'm sure something will! Best, Chris
