1966 Corvette Convertible L79 *SOLD*

Recommended Posts

*SOLD* Documented matching-numbers HT-coded L79 327/350 horsepower, 4-speed car. Loaded with options including removable hardtop, knock-off wheels, side pipes (added during restoration), power windows, power steering, power antenna, and AM/FM stereo radio. Everything works, runs and drives superbly, correct redline bias-ply tires. 9700 miles since it was finished, so it's not perfect, but it's extremely nice and properly sorted. Only notable deviation from stock is the exhaust headers. Original color combination Rally Red/black vinyl/white top. Fast, fun, and reliable. The L79 is a fantastic motor with hydraulic lifters but loves to rev. Happy to burble along at 1000 RPM in 4th gear but barks through the gears with authority. A great all-around Corvette that's 100% ready to enjoy at almost any level. $79,900 (other similar cars available, E-mail for info).

Matt, this is a great looking car at a realistic price. I owned one very similar. They are a real treat to drive. Everybody should own one just once to cruise PCH on a sunny day.

This car was really special. You guys probably know the difference between an average car and a car that's "right," or maybe not, because most cars can't come close to this car's level of amazing. This Corvette was 100% right in the driving department. It started instantly, it idled well, it ran at 170 degrees no matter how hot it got outside or how long you sat in traffic, and cranked out 50 PSI of oil pressure at all times. It tracked straight, braked smooth, and the soundtrack through those pipes from the L79 motor was downright HEROIC. It sounded like a movie soundtrack, that's how perfect it was. It never failed to start, it had almost zero squeaks and rattles (on a Corvette?!? Are you kidding me?!?), and everything worked, right down to the clock which was more accurate than my Seiko watch. Matching-numbers, two tops, power windows, power antenna, power steering, knock-offs, and it was a former Bloomington Gold car. I mean, this car checked every single box imaginable. You could lug it around in 4th gear at 8 MPH or scream it to 6000 RPM, it was equally happy doing both. I have a pair of 1968 427 cars, including an aluminum-head L89, and I'm not at all confident that they are any faster than this nasty little L79.

I took the new owner for a ride and leaned on it in third, at which point those skinny little bias-plys started to squirm, hammered 4th (what? Like it's gonna break?!?) at about 70, and wailed it up to 90 MPH.

That might just be the best driving Mid-Year Corvette in existence. Prove me wrong. Holy crap was that a spectacular car!
