Bought another one

For a short period of time I will own 4 Reattas. The one I just bought is a "parts car". It is an 1989 red/tan. I will start with the dismantle when I get it next week. Kdirk will be coming up and splitting the parts with me. The steering wheel is as nice as the one I have in my "Red" and I will put it in my 'vert to "update" from that ugly '90/91 steering wheel.

These cars are a nice hobby...

Actually this will be your fifth if you count the one we parted last year. And let's be honest, it is no longer a hobby, it's an obsession. I'm just glad we're doing the teardown at your place, my neighbors already think I'm certifiable.

It will be a nice respite from the heat here for a couple of days as well, so I'm rather looking forward to it.

Well Kevin just left. He rolled in Sunday afternoon with his '95 Sedan de Ville which he wisely removed both the passenger seat and rear seat from. I had pulled a bunch of parts prior to his arrival but he surprised me with his wanting to take the rear trunk lid, front bumper assembly and front fendors. This in addition to the dash, seats and many other parts way to numerous to mention. He took so many parts that when the guy from Gibson's showed up to tow it away he had to call in and tell them what we did. So we got less for the car but Kevin got more parts so it all worked out.

Kevin will be posting pictures of it on the truck heading to the Reatta graveyard. I am sure they are just going to crush it as all that is left is just the body, front/rear glass, engine and tranny...

First leg of the trip home is ok. Writing this from the world's largest Culver's in Newville WI where I stopped for a breather and a late lunch. Car is loaded but have better rear visibility than I expected. Will post when I get home.

I've had nine Reattas.  IMO if you have more than two (one vert, one coupe) and it's not for your livelihood, you need a reality check. It did take a (figuratively) knock on my head for me to start selling off not just the Reattas but others I had in my collection.  About 3/4 sold and of what remains that I'd like to sell is still very, very difficult to let go.

I've done parts runs from Sacramento to Portland with the '90 coupe full of parts.

I remember rear vision being limited to a small space between a dash, some wheels and a door panel.

Sounds like you guys had fun.

Drive safely.

Got home safely - but tired - about 7:15 CDT. Will unload car tomorrow - which will be a big job. I have the dashboard, both front fenders, trunk lid, both inside door panels, all rear interior quarter trim except ski door, one complete seat, hood insulator, both vent windows, both side windows, both exterior handles, center console and some trim, front bumper, valence and grille, both headlamps sans motors, some harness sections, complete fuel rail, some under hood brackets and hardware, fuel release solenoid, bunch of various modules and switches and some plastics and misc stuff.

Yes, I cleaned up nicely on this car. Dave got some goodies too, but the salvage yard squawked about the amount of stuff missing and renegotiated the scrap price so I made up the difference. Still got a great deal.

As far as having too many cars, yeah I know. Pains me to say this but the Caddy is probably first to go. Age is taking its toll on it and I think I'll sell it while it still looks nice and everything works so I don't have to watch it fall apart. That and my work van is also going to need replacement within a year or two so I'll probably get rid of both and buy a decent used pickup to replace them both.

Was out to Gibson's today and I don't believe it. The Reatta Kevin and I just stripped is out there. Really almost nothing left but the carpet, engine and tranny. Rear glass is good [only want $65.00 for it] Windshield is cracked.

The one we stripped last fall had more parts left on it and that went straight to the crusher.

I only own two Reattas currently, white '90 vert and red '91 vert but I also own a '99 and '00 toyota rav4, an '02 Highlander and a '95 turbo diesel Ford Ambulance that I use as a work vehicle and Purdue tailgate mobile.

I have owned 13 Cadillac Allantes (every model year) and I've parted out four Allantes so I know the joys of stripping a car down and marketing the parts. I also find it's always good to keep a few choice parts on the shelf.

Took a nice topdown cruise in the 91 tonight on a beautiful 76 degree evening.
