Guest REX STALLION
Well I thought I had a good dash but when working inside the car today, I raised my head quickly and crunched the edge of my dash. Now what do I do? Do you recover or try to find a good donor? Two steps forward , one step back:o

RivNut
Two steps forward , one step back:oIs that what you call the Riviera Shuffle?I'd go for a repair. There's an article in the Tech Tips section of the ROA's website that suggests using "bondo" to fill in the cracks then recover with new vinyl. I've recovered pads before but I've found that the expanding insulation works better. It stays somewhat pliable and is easier to shape.Ed

RivNut
Time to visit your local upholstery shop. The name of the grain in the dash pad is called "haircell."Ed Edited March 5, 2012 by RivNut (see edit history)
Paul K.
Has anyone had a '63-5 dashpad recovered with one piece of vinyl so as not to have a seam or stitching on the facing edge?
RivNut
I have. The upholsterer used 'expanded vinyl.' With a little heat and some persuasion, you can make it fit all the curves.Ed
