Guest frcc16
I'm on my last wheel and have met up with one stubborn brake shoe anchor bolt that is rusted to its sleeve in the backer plate. I have backed off the nut and soaked the bolt on both sides with PB Blaster. I may have to invest in a new pipe wrench as mine is old and won't bite the bolt head very well. It still isn't budging. Has anyone every had success with heating, then cooling a frozen anchor bolt to free it from the backer plate sleeve? Thanks!

Curti
I have had the most success heating to red hot then quench. Since you cannot put it in a bucket of water squirt cold water on it. you will be able to take it apart with your fingers.
plymouthcranbrook
I had to use acetylene torch to remove one of mine on my 52 Plymouth. I had mushroomed the end trying to pound it out. I finally heated it red hot and then put vice grips on the head and twisted as I heated it. Still took forever to remove.
