Daves1940Buick56S
Attached is a picture of the car that got me interested in 1940 Super coupes. It was taken at the 1974 Victor, NY Auto Show, in June 1974. I was going thru some of the 100s of Kodachromes I took at car shows in the 70s and 80s and came across this.Enjoy!Cheers, Dave
Guest BigDogDaddy
Very nice car. It is cool that you kept the picture to remind you of how you got started with the 40 Supers.
Daves1940Buick56S
Thanks! I actually keep a *lot* of stuff, but I especially have negs/transparencies going back to my long-ago youth. Our heirs are going to have an interesting job going thru everything! ;)Cheers, Dave
Buicknutty
Thanks for sharing, Dave. Lovely car, I have a '41 76S, quite similar lines. That's the neat thing about film, if its' kept safe from heat and water, it will last many, many decades. Especially Kodachrome and B&W film, I have Kodachromes my Dad shot in the early 50's that look as good as the day they were processed. allcars
And it all started for me with this "cream puff" Verde Green 1940 Super 56S that my dad bought in Wichita, Kansas during 1951. I was four; that's me standing beside the Buick. My mother always said they bought it because I wrapped my arms around the front bumper at the car lot and hollered until they agreed to take it home. I did love that car. My dad had owned two other 1940 Buicks before this one; a new Century Sedan and—after he returned from WWII—a used Super Sedan that was the car that I came home from the hospital in after my birth in 1947. So, I imagine he had more to do with making the decision to buy the Super coupe than I did. I still think the 1940-41 GM C-body cars are some the most beautifully styled of all GM cars.
