Need Info on Vacuum Lines

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone has an unmolested air conditioning system in their first gen Riviera that can tell me the total number of small vacuum hose lines that travel through the grommet on the firewall/bulkhead assembly? I have been trying to make sure that my system has all the proper lines but the chassis manual is somewhat difficult to follow at times concerning the routing of these lines (at least for me). By my count there are 7 hoses. Can someone verity this for me? Thanks in advance.

On my '64 my count is as follows:

6 vacuum lines

1 wire control line (be careful how you count this - it looks like a vacuum line at first glance but it is not)

1 wire bundle (medium size, wrapped in black wiring tape)

Hi Eric - one more question. Are any of these hoses different colors or are they all black?

Originally they had a colored stripe on them for ID purposes. Just like a wire with a tracer color on it.

Thanks Ed I know exactly what you are describing. Nice to know info but looks like I will have to live without the stripe indentifier for now.

If you search the archives, you'll find a reference to a set of vacuum lines that are a restoration item for an Oldsmobile Cutlass. Good luck; if you figure out how to make some, let us know.

I've seen in my chassis manual that there *should* be color tracer on the lines, but if they're there my eyes can't make it out. Somewhere on my to-do list is a task to do a good under-hood cleaning, perhaps there is still a bit of color remaining under all the dust.

On my 67, the vacuum lines from my heater/AC controls all looked the same till I wiped them with a rag with a little lacquer thinner/ I then could make out the color.

Thanks guys for the added information. The color coding would come in handy when tracing defective lines in the system.
