Vintman
Hi Folks,Many Thanks to Ivan Saxton and Leif Holmberg for the help with the Apperson. We at the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society (United Kingdom) have an active Help Page on our website (currently a new one at http://www.svvs.org/help18.shtml) where the general public can get free assistance with identification of old cars from old photos. We need help with the photo attached. We think this is an American car, which carries British cca 1926 registration number, and which may have been photographed in India. We don’t think it is a mainstream US car because there are lots of discrepancies with most makes. We would therefore appreciate any assistance.Kind RegardsVintman www. svvs.org
Layden B
In America it would be a Star, but overseas sales were badged as Rugby.
Ivan Saxton
The age of the car has to be much closer to 1920 than 1926. It could even be earlier.I am not sure that you saw the explanation of air shocks in your other thread that I transcribed for you from Dykes.Ivan Saxton
Layden B
Star was a new introduction in spring of 1922, this picture is of an early style car, styling was updated by 1926 or so, actually a rather popular car with considerably high production numbers though survival rate was low. CarlLaFong
I think that car belonged to the Anti Christ
Guest elmo39
Looking at the book American car spotters guide 1920 -39 , the headlight mounting bars are to low for a 1922-23 star ,the other illustrations of later models are not really clear but they still look to low compared to the pic. the one there is of a Rugby is of a 26 model which has a compleely different radiator surround

Vintman
Hi folks,Thanks for the inputs. Can confirm to Ivan having read his info on Westinghouse shocks on the Apperson, but am still not clear if these were normally factory fitted or fitted by the owner?? I replied via the ‘persona’l part of the forum, but presumably not received.Just to clarify, does Elmo think this is NOT a Star/Rugby. If not, any other ideas?RegardsVintman
Guest elmo39
vitman I have no idea what it is , but looking again at my book American car spotters guide 1920-1939, Star cars started in 1922 . the first ones 1922-23 looking at the book had a split windsheild ,and also the wind shield was curved at the bottom as were the later ones . but if it was a UK built car that could possibly account for that although most export US cars came as as a chassis cowl unit the body being built at the destination by local tradesmen. The only illustration of a Rugby in the book is of a 1927 which also has the curve in the bottom of the screen , and a different profile of the radiator
