WilsonDeCamp
I have a photograph of my father and grandfather in an old car. It was probably taken about 1912-1915, based on my father's likely age in the photo (attached). Can anyone help me identify the car make and year?Wilson DeCampLeesburg, VA
K8096
Do you know where the photo was taken? That building is pretty unique, and is probably still standing.
WilsonDeCamp
I'm not sure of the address -- probably somewhere on the south side of Chicago. I've been by the address where my great-grandfather used to live on Calumet Avenue. As I recall, the fronts of the buildings were somewhat similar in appearance to what's in the photo. caf
By the look of the rear hubcap I would say 1909 or 1910 Hupmobile model 20 roadster. A really neat looking car, even today.
R W Burgess
Car looks almost new. What's with the spare tire, which looks to be without a rim?Wayne
D Binger
Wayne,You really need to look at the OLD cars and forget the new ones. There were spare tires only for the real early ones. You changed the tire on the wheel when it was still on the car. At the next meet you should go to look at the early cars.
R W Burgess
Dan, I've had the chance to see sidemounts on Model T's but that's about it. I never realized that a "bare" tire would have been attached this way. I'll be sure to check this out in the future. Oh btw, if I don't ask, I continue to be stupid. Wayne
1937hd45
Yes, It is a Hup Model 20 for sure, but I believe the aluminum hub caps were 1910-11.
Guest De Soto Frank
I can't wait till I have to change MY first "clincher on the car"... Of course, I will have to ACQUIRE the brass-era car before I need to worry much about changing tires... What a great photo ! Too bad there's not more of the car, but that pic of Dad & Son are terrific!
