Go here, The VCCA, they're the antique chevy experts.

I also have a 26 Chevy. Mine is a roadster. It ran very well when I bought it so I see no need to rebuild the engine. Because I don't have a history of what was used before I now use 30w non-detergent Valvoline oil. I wouldn't recommend using a multi-weight detergent oil in a car that was used to non=detergent, you're inviting trouble if you do. There is also no need to add lead to the fuel.

Edit to add... when you go to that VCCA link clicking on the lil mans head will take you to the forums.

Run the cheapest thing you can get, and you'll be fine. Lead wasn't even introduced to fuel until 1929 I believe, so don't be suckered into buying lead substitutes. The gas in 1926 was probably about 40 octane anyway, so anything you can get will run and be better than what was around in 1926.

Keep those rocker arms oiled, that's why there are little holes in the valve cover. There should be a heavy felt pad under the cover to hold the oil. Have fun, four cylinder Chevys are great cars.

Why not post the pictures of it you sent me so everyone can have a look at it? It's a nice car.

How young are you? My newest collector car is from 1933, and I'm 33 years old. Yeah, my friends think I'm weird, but that's ok.

That's a great looking car! Once you get to know it, you and your wife will have a lot of fun in it. I installed seatbelts in my '32 Franklin last weekend, and put in the baby seat yesterday. Today, I'm taking the whole family out to a car show.

The four-cylinder chevy is a great car, simple, strong, and reliable. You will have a lot of fun with it, jut remember it's a 40mph car at best with two-wheel brakes. Sedans are great to tour with, comfortable with lots of room for all your stuff. Good Luck! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The email you sent with the other pictures is gone so I can't post them for you. If you send them again I'll gladly post them for you.
