I found a windshield stanchion from an old car but there was not enough left to tell what kind of car it was on. There was a part number on the tri-pod mount of the stanchion. It was 6748-19 (it is possible it was 8748-19, the six was difficult to read). There also was an "A" with a circle around it near the number. The best I can find out there were 3 likely possibilities; a Model T; a Buick; or a Maxwell. All these were known to belong to the person who lived there.
