Trunk lock Cylinder Spring?

Is the Trunk lock Cylinder (the part that you put the key into) supposed to have a return spring on it? When I removed mine from the car to repair or replace it there was no evidence of it ever having a spring. But under closer scrutiny it appears that there are two small notched tabs that look like attachment points for a spring that could be coiled around the cylinder. I've looked in the FSM, on my Mitchell CD and GM parts Direct.

I've found figures showing the various parts of the assembly but none show a spring but, it sure looks like it may have been designed to have one on it. Does anyone know for sure about this? (commonly held beliefs aside, this proves I really don't know everything <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />_

If your talking about after you remove the silver/black metal (it originally was black but most turn chrome) then yes there are two holes for two springs

I appreciate your rapid response. I?m not referring to the two small springs behind the decorative/ protective cover that comes in the repair kits but to one that may be wrapped around the cylinder. It would have the same (approx.) diameter as a nickel. On a working lock unit does the key feel like it wants to return to it?s home position after being turned (much like when you key the ignition) or , does it want to stay where it has been turned?

The two little springs that go in parallel to the key and next to the key opening are there to keep the plate with the little door in it tight against the round cover that holds trim/weather cover in place.

OK, I couldn't find the correct spring that would wrap around the Lock Cylinder to return the key to the off position but I did find one that would work for the time being.
