Oz Dodge 4
I recently bought a job lot of Stewart carby bits and pieces for the Dodgy 4, (mostly cast floatbowl top, but a few with the pressed top), and in the bits is a cast iron throttle body that is straight , not bent at 90 degrees as is all the ones I have seen. Is this an early version, or one off a specialised aplication, or off something other than a Dodge/Graham product. It fits neatly onto the brass section of the carby body and seems to be the same mounting size for everything, just straight. I havn't seen these "Stewart' carbs on anything else and it has me a little puzzled.Any Ideas ?Graham
carbking
The "Stewart" carburetor was used on many different applications from about 1913 to about 1930. The latest versions of the Dodge 4 were a true updraft, rather than the more common sidedraft.Jon.
Oz Dodge 4
Thanks Jon,Would that make it most likely off a "fast four" ?Graham
carbking
Graham - it could be from a "fast four", but many other makes used the Stewart carburetor. Some of them are:Chrysler, Colonial, Essex, F.R.P., Hollier, Hudson, Hupmobile, Kline, Lozier, Maxwell, Paige, Pilgrim, and Regal.Additionally, they were used on a number of tractors; and possibly some marine and stationary engines. There are at least 10 different versions used by Dodge.Jon. Oz Dodge 4
Thanks Jon,Looks like it's going to remain a mystery, I will keep an eye out though to see if I can spot one on something sometime.Graham
