Source for backgrounds for web sites

Hello all:

Any one got any good ideas for a good source of backgrounds for web sites. Of course vechicle related would be real good but since I also have another web site I take care of that is not car related a source for general backgrounds would be nice. Maybe there is a program out there to create your own backgrounds.

I'm an Internet user, not a webmaster, but here's an idea for what it's worth:

The car ads of the past have had some great artwork. Why not scan in some attractive artwork from the 1920's, for instance, and use it in subdued tones for the background? You would have a background suitable to the old-car theme of your website, and it would be a background that no one else has.

Artwork in those ads ranges from simple and subtle to very detailed, so you could choose something that suits your taste. If you don't have colorful old ads in your collection, the A.A.C.A. Library in Hershey has quite a variety of old ads in their collection, and I bet they would be happy to scan in a few for you.

If you would like, I could e-mail you a few which I obtained from the A.A.C.A. Library.

(I live close enough to visit the Library, and I have gotten some images for the upcoming Glidden Tour which our region is sponsoring next year.) For example, an artwork image I have from a 1926 Lincoln ad is quite uncluttered but attractive. The scanned images I have are about 1500 to 2100 kilobytes, so I think they should be e-mailable.

Remember, I'm not a webmaster, so don't ask me how many dots per inch or anything in Computerese. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Brian, I e-mailed you three different ads this evening, one in each of 3 e-mails. Let me know when you receive them. If they prove to be too large to go through e-mail, I could always mail you a CD by U.S. Mail.

My college roommate specialized in digital signal processing (a branch of electrical engineering). Amazing how simple on/off electrical impulses can be arranged to transmit pictures, music, calculate complex formulas, sell garage-sale leftovers on Ebay, etc. etc. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> !

You can get embossing effects like the attachment you posted using most any Photo Shop type software. Once you've scanned an ad you like, elimenate the undesired part of the background & then use the embossing feature. You can use whatever car(s) make you happy that way (even have a different car for each page), & have some very unique backgrounds too.
