After replacing the rubber pvc grommet in the manifold started to insert the pvc valve when the grommet pushed thru the hole. Not able to see or fell the grommet.

Does this mean i have to pull the manifold to find it or can i leave it in there and replace the pvc grommet?

If poss. need to know tonight to start the removal, and have it back together tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Which grommet? If it is the lower one, (and it probably is),it shouldn't do any harm, there is a pan attached to the bottom of the manifold to prevent oil splash from getting up to the PCV valve, and it can't get out of that. The upper one into the actual intake plenum would likely be a problem. You might not have to pull the manifold to find it, but you would have to pull the throttle body and manifold adapter, not a fun job with the coolant lines that are connected to the manifold and throttle body. Even when you can see into the manifold it is possible it fell down into the #2 port and it is several inches down to the actual valve, making it very difficult if it got down in there. The other possibility if it is the upper: if the MAF is removed, and the throttle blocked open, you can see into the manifold with a small light and maybe one of those little grabber things could access it if it is sitting on the floor of the plenum.

I need to analyze this grommet a little better. It has been brought up before. Though, of course I don't deal with a conventional PCV system <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />. I'll take a better look s

If in a pinch, can RTV be used to seal it up?

I agree with 2seater though, that if it's the one that I'm thinking of, it won't do the engine any harm since it just sits in that pan as pictured on the right

Wish I had waited. Removed manifold to find the pan no place for it to go. Get good clean up while it down. Thanks everyone for the information. There was nothing in the service manual that covered this issue.

Again Thanks

Frankly, I don't see why RTV wouldn't work fine for this application. It isn't a very complicated system and as long as there is a reasonable seal, it should work fine. I would let it set up well before starting the engine. I don't know if how much actual pressure is present inside the engine, shouldn't be much, and ideally there would be a slight vacuum, but better to let it get somewhat solid before trying it.

Back on the road again. Just like to thank everyone that responded to the grommet issue.

All gaskets, and seals, hoses are new. Dont't think every change the pvc valve again. Caution to everyone that does. The rubber grommet in most cases will be brittle, and break in half when removing the old pvc valve. Then when you purchase a new grommet placing it correctly in the manifold hole, and inserting the pvc valve in the grommet just might fall thru the manifold hole.

At time wasn't aware there a baffle under the manifold, and no place for it to go. Ck pic provided by one of your fellow reatta owners. Nice pic.

Again thanks Barney.

Thanks Larry
