sweetford55
I located two nice 55' Ford Customlines. One has an automatic with a 6 cyl. and the other has a 3 speed with a 6 cyl.I want to swap to a 272, 292 or 312 V-8. Is this a major undertaking as far as crossmember and mounts or is it a simple bolt in with proper mounts? Will the V-8 bolt up to the 3 speed and the automatic? All input as to this swap would be greatly appreciated.
junkyardjeff
Swapping to a V8 is easy, just get all the mounts and needed parts from one in a junkyard or buy a parts car,on the 6 cylinder cars the radiator is moved a little forward then the V8s which will give a little more room for a good fan but the outlets on the radiator are different so if you get one try to find a running parts car so you will have everything. I dont know if the automaitc that is behind the 6 is the same as a V8 as I never seen one behind a 6 but it probably is the same but would need the bellhousing changed as I dont know if the 223 and the V8s shared the same bolt pattern.
