6219_Rules
I am looking for the plastic crest for the front of my series 62 sedan. I have the bezel on and intact, but it is missing the crest. I have had a generous offer for one only costing $450 or a new one from McVeys for $250, but needless to say those are out of my range. Does anyone know of a company that produces these for less than the National Debt? Oh and McVeys used to carry the gold letters for the trunk lids (as of last quarter) but no longer ... any idea where these may be procured? Or do I have to fix mine? The pins are gone. Thanks for the help in advance, guys!
jaxops
Randall, You won't like hearing this but McVey's is about your only bet for the crest. Emblemagic won't do it since McVeys has them. I tried to get mine repaired but no one would touch it. The letters for the trunk are seemingly all gone. McVeys backordered a bunch of reproduction letters so they should be in soon. I was fine there until the "Barbarian Horde" that stripped my car pulled the letters off of the trunk with pliers instead of undoing the PAL nut inside the lid. All of my perfect original letters have either no prongs or very short and bent prongs that don't fit back into the holes enough to be fastened. I can always glue them on but I am trying to replace them.
6219_Rules
Oh POOH. You are right, I do not like hearing that but so be it. I will simply have to save up for one.I am glad they are getting some of the letters in. Mine look great but have no pins on the back. They are glued to the trunk (eeew). So I either spend the money for repros or braze pins to the back of the originals. What a world. What a world.

MarvMarvs
Randall, I am out in California and there is an outfit called "AllCads of the 40's and 50's" that belongs to one of the officers of the local chapter of the Cadillac/LaSalle club. I was there searching for parts and happen to know that he had a box full of crests for 54-56. They were originals, not new but in decent/serviceable shape. His website is, www.allcads.com and his name is Ed Cholakian. Hope this might help, I have a 1956 series 62 coupe myself. Mark
6219_Rules
Hey thanks, Mark! I forgot about Ed. I used him almost exclusively when I had my '47. I will give him a call tomorrow!! You are life saver!!
MarvMarvs
Randall, glad to be of help. When I read your post, I remembered going through his aisles of parts and seeing that box of crests. And I thought maybe you might be interested in them if your having that much trouble finding one. Some of these parts are getting as scarce as hens teeth, and just as expensive. Especially as a lot of them are not being repro'd. Mark
6219_Rules
I sent Ed an email the other day, and he does have them. But because of their rarity, used ones are going for $550.00 and the gold colored letters, for $35.00 per letter. The up shot is that these few items have been very popular with the kiddies who love to steal such things, thinking they can't cost too much to replace if they think about it at all. Too bad you can't rig up the battery to the crest so when it is separated, POW! The little monster gets something to really whine about. Anyway I will keep looking and if there is no other choice, you can get a new one at McVeys for $250, at last count.
MarvMarvs
Wow! I had no idea that the used ones were so expensive. I shouldn't be suprised though, it seems like everything is. I better weld mine to the hood! Sorry the tip didn't pay off. Mark
6219_Rules
Yeah that was my thought. Use liquid nails or something. Oh well, I could always set it to come out so I could carry it inside with me. sheesh. Some peoples' children.
