Hello

I am 15 and have a 1957 olds 88 4-door. I was wondering if anybody could help decoding the vin on the door jam and on the firewall. The vin tag on the door jam reads: 577W15254. The tag on the firewall reads: paint 60-60-10-10, Style 573669,Trim 365, Body BW3683, ACC-K7. Any help would be appreciated.

I can decode part of it for you, but my books are pretty thin on 1955-58 stuff.

577W15254 decodes as a 19 <span style="font-weight: bold">57</span> Eighty Eight (7) built in Wilmington Delaware (W). The last 5 numbers are the sequential car #.

60-60-10-10 are the upper and lower body colors, roof color and the accent stripe color (in the rear quarter trim). 60 is Alcan White, 10 is Black. www.autocolorlibrary.com has color charts.

57-3669 is 1957, series 3600 (88), body style 69 (GM-speak for a 4-door sedan).

Trim 365 is red Morrocceen vinyl and black pattern cloth seats and door panels. Instrument panel will be red, headlining Ivory and it would have a black rubber floor mat.

BW6383 is the Fisher Body sequential job number. Doesn't always match the car serial number. I can't help you on ACC-K7 other than that it is an accessory code. My guess is it's vacuum operated heater controls (instead of the standard cable operated stuff).

Neat car, and more stylish than any 57 Chevy! Olds Club of America had a 1957 Chapter at one time and there were some really knowledgable people in it.

Wow, what a lucky guy. Your vin means:

57 (1957 model)

7 (Golden Rocket 88)

W (Wilmington, Delaware B-O-P assembly plant)

15254 (14,254th car off the line at that plant)

60-60-10-10 probably means Alcan White upper and lower body, with an Onyx Black accent stripe and wheels (or wheel covers)

Style 573669 means its a 1957 (57) Oldsmobile (3) Golden Rocket 88 (6) 4-door sedan (69)

Trim number 365 is for red vinyl with black pattern cloth

BW3683 is the body number. BW means it was built at the Wilmington, Delaware Fisher Body plant, 3683 means it was the 3,683rd Golden Rocket 88 sedan body built at that plant. The body was then shipped over to the Wilmington B-O-P (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) plant for final assembly.

K7 is an accessory code, I believe for chrome door window frames (at least that's what it was in '62).

Sounds like a snazzy looking car.
