My grandfathers 1938 Dodge Crew Cab

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Here's my granfathers car that he previuosly used in his work after IIWW until 1959.

I got it back to our family last saturday!

The car has an original Dodge KEW(UK-made) chassis, front fenders, running boards (also rear fenders were original-Dodge, but they are missing), grille engine(bigger desoto/chrysler engine), tranny and axles. I guess this has a 3/4 ton chassis?? Well, atleast wheelbase is 136" and it has sixbolt wheels.

That CrewCab body has been made in Finland in 1938 by local body shop. This is the only one made in Finland. (of course they made lot's of bodies to trucks and busses..)

Funny thing is that there's a gas tank UNDER drivers seat, and when you are filling it up, you must remove drivers seat cushion. Grandfather once told, that the handbrake lining once set on fire and he had to hurry up to kill the fire with snow! I can imagine what would had happened, if the car had continued burning..

This car has never had any rust, but unfortunately, previuos owner-restorers have lost some important parts! Like bed sides, grille parts, rear fenders and some interior parts also. Steering wheel is also "so long.."

The car has originally colored dark green with black fenders.

All information and help is appreciated!!!

Some photos:

(these photos are from last saturday. The older guy in the photos is my grandfather, who is checking out "his old servant" :-) )

Well. I have NEVER heard that there would be another '38 Dodge Truck in Finland. But on the other hand, who the heck would have needed those fenders, if there weren't.. I know one '38 pickup..

But Yes, of course I'm interested in buying those parts from US. I know a company in Pomona,Ca that ships stuff to Finland, and I have used them many times. No problem!!

Tow vehicle? Oh, you mean that Volkswagen Transporter 4x4? Well, you couldn't tell that there was 2150 kilos+trailer in the back, but I do not personally like those Transporter vans myself. I would prefer more a Chevy Van
