Coley
Hello. I have been contacted to sell a couple very old (1909/1917) cars that have no titles. These have been owned by the same man for 60 years. I don't know what they might have had for titles originally, but now I need to know what paperwork will let me legally sell them for him. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give....
Peter J.Heizmann
Coley, you may want to check with your DMV. Also, Broadway Title Co. They advertise "Titles, No Title/Lost Title"."No previous paperwork required."1-800-464-3222titles@broadwaytitle.comRegards,Peter <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Coley
Thanks for the info. Illinois DMV is not the best to get help from. But I will try the other idea. Greg
Guest ghotson
I have likewise used Broadway Title for motorcycles with success.
DAL
If the owner has owned the vehicle for some time, and had originally titled it, you may be able to pay for a hand search of the BMV records to locate the title. If the owner never titled the vehicle, you would find the VIN number on the vehicle. (Those years it may be as little as 3 characters.) Then you would get a police inspection/affidavit to verify that that specific VIN# is on the vehicle. Next, you would need a bill of sale. And if the title has been lost, an affidavit stating that you (or the previous owner) have owned the vehicle for a certain period of time. Due to my own experience, I would highly recommend that you also correctly identify (code) the model of the vehicle. It may be required by the BMV. And correct identification/title can have a great impact on value. You may need to do search of nearby states and go to small claims court. You may be able to sell the vehicle with a bill of sale and/or and affidavit from the owner that states how long he has owned the vehicle and/or where. Then let the new owner get the title. (Not all states require titles.) The exact method will vary state to state.
