Did any have Scottish (checkboard red & black) interior?

How do you get into the battery box?

Did it ever come with a radio and where was it?

How do you get the sides of the seats out, moths have had a field day and ate the sides?

Did they have wool seats?

How does the fan work?

How does the head liner stay up, ours is falling down?

Thats all I can think of right now.

Hi Debby

Welcome to the group. I can't really help with anything apart from the battery. The front seat cushion lifts out and you access the battery from there. Probably a lot of rust in that area. I've just brought my 40 Australian built Royal home a couple of months ago, and are looking at much the same problems as you. A radio would have been an option. Are you talking about the engine fan or the heater fan? A good idea would be to check out the Imperial club web site. http://www.imperialclub.com/ They have a lot of interesting literature that may help.

Good luck with the car!

How did you find out yours was a C25S car? All mine says is Chrysler Royal and it has a serial number. Is there some where to check the number?

Thanks

It was stamped on the firewall. Actually the C25S should be a long wheelbase model, but mine is the standard 122 1/2". Being Australian built, the location of the numbers are different to your car. I have a contact in Canada who has just restored a 38 and may be of help to you. I'll let him know you're on this board. At least he's a bit closer <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

You can see some pics of my car before I picked it up at http://au.geocities.com/rjluke63/40_Chrysler.html

Hi Plymoth

I'd love the overdrive, but a bit far for me. You may want to post it on the for sales section as well.

Will he split the items, or is it a job lot?

"Did any have Scottish (checkboard red & black) interior?"

There was a "Highlander" interior option that had plaid seats. I think it was offered only in 1940 and newer and only on the eight cylinder models.

Could it be that a previous owner put on seat covers? This was a popular thing to do at the time. The plaid seat covers were best sellers. If it has seat covers the original upholstery will be underneath.

"How do you get into the battery box?"

Not exactly sure on your car but some cars back then had the battery under the floor. Roll back the front floor mats and look for a square panel on the passenger side.

"Did it ever come with a radio and where was it?"

Radio was an option. If you had one it would be in the middle of the instrument panel. If not, the hole would be covered with a decorative plate.

"How do you get the sides of the seats out, moths have had a field day and ate the sides?

Did they have wool seats?"

Wool upholstery was popular at that time, I think Chrysler used a striped wool broadcloth. Not sure how the sides of the seats come off, look under the seat for some bolts or clips

"How does the fan work?"

No fan unless you have the optional heater. If you have a heater the fan control will probably be a knob or switch either on the instrument panel or clamped to the bottom of the instrument panel. See if there is a wire from the heater, trace it to the switch.

"How does the head liner stay up, ours is falling down?"

The headliner is held up by bows that run across the ceiling at about 1 foot intervals. You should see a sewn seam at each bow.

"Thats all I can think of right now."

OK adios amigo. If you think up some more questions we will be here.
