A couple of 66 TORO questions...

Hello, I have a couple questions regarding fixing a few things on my 66 toro. First is that the turn signal mechanism has gone kaput, and I need to replace it. Were can I find a replacement switch? The stalk itself is fine, I need the internals inside the steering column. In addition, how exactly do I go about getting the parts out of the column? Do I need to take the whole column out of the car? I would also like to know of any active toro mailing lists, I'm not having any luck finding anything online! Thanks!

Try www.automobilearchives.com . They have a good selection of GM electrical stuff. Be aware that there are two different switches and actuators- Boyne and Guide, and they are not interchangeable.

The stuff can be serviced with the column in the car. If it's a Tilt-Telescopic you may need a special tool to remove the tilt pivot pins before you can get at the actuator or switch.

Link back to the OCA site from here, and I think there's a link to the Toronado Chapter. You'll find the Toro e-mail list there. It may also link off 442.com .

Hi,

I have a 66 Toronado too and I have the same problem. The steering column changed in 67 and the 66 turn signal switch is almost impossible to find. Are you a member of the Toronado mailing list? If not, I strongly recommend you join this list. Lots of great people who like early Toronados there...

To join, send a blank email to thelist@toronado.net with the word subscribe in the subject line.

Good luck,

Mikel

I just fixed my 66 Toronado's. The turn signal switch is bolted to the left of the steering column and is actuated by a wire. You DON'T need to take the steering colun apart. Just lower it so you can access the switch, take it apart, clean it with some fine sand paper, adjust the wire, and it will be as good as new.

Email me if you have any questions.
