Cars of Christmas past day 4

Today is our 1961 Mack pumper- started life as part of the city of Edmonton fleet, after it was decommissioned it moved around small towns in Saskatchewan, the last being Shellbrook. That’s where we got it from, hasn’t required much work and it’s tons of fun- everyone loves a fire truck.

My hometown of Branchdale PA bought this 1957 GMC truck new.  Not long after it went into service it spent days fighting a huge fire at the big coal colliery in town.  My uncle Ed was the fire chief at the time.  I can still remember the clanking of the tire chains when it was driven in the winter months. The GMC engine also had a very distinctive sound as it lumbered along.  The fire company still owns the truck but it’s no longer as clean looking as it is in this picture.
