Gerczak
All, I have rebuilt my Lovejoy shocks and keep getting leaks around the cork top gaskets. There are only 2 screws holding the top cap down but I have replaced the cork multiple times and I still get leaks over 80F. I have not overfilled them as I have even suctioned out some hydraulic jack oil once filled. Any suggestions? I tried the gaskachince but still have issues. The cork i cut the gasket out of is fairly thin. Was there a different material or thicker cork used? Looking for advice as I am tired of the leaks. hook
Are you using gasket sealer? Normally, cork gaskets were sealed with the old "Indian Head Shellac" sealer. Also don't over tighten since that deforms cork and causes leaks.
Gerczak
I will try the Shellac (Which apparently Permatex dropped the Indian in the name). I was also using Liquid Wrench Hydraulic Jack oil and it runs like water. I am planning on going to use an ISO 32 wt Oil and give that a try. Yes, I guess it has to do being proper and not offending anyone or group. Here's what it used to be a few years ago and of course many years ago before Permatex it was just Indian Head in a glass bottle.
