Rusty Heaps
I am working on my Father’s 1929 coupe. We had the hood and radiator off of the vehicle and now can’t get it aligned properly. The hood overlaps the radiator shell on one side and is too close to the cowl on the other. I’m thinking that one of the shims under the radiator may have fallen out. Tips on straightening out the front end are greatly appreciated. He’s 81 and it’s his first car, so I would like to have him drive it soon. Unfortunately it has been idle for nearly 20 years. The engine does turn over. I believe it will run with little effort aside from the aforementioned adjustments.
AzBob
Things to check, radiator mounts, body blocks, frame sagging in the vicinity of the rear motor mounts. Les Andrews has a section on this in the Model A Mechanics Handbook Vol. II. Hood Alignment.
Rusty Heaps
Thanks. I’m going to have to pull the radiator back out of the car. I’ll have to start fresh with a new radiator and alignment of front parts. At least I have an idea of what to check this time.
