Guest Sifua
I want to strip the excess paint off of the wheels on my 36 Dodge Brothers Sedan (D2) and re-paint them. I am a beginner at this. How do I go about doing this without ruining the whole thing. The tires are still on the wheels. Thanks in advance.
RickBrinker
I just restored the wheels on my 25 Dodge i masked the tires off and the spokes(the wood wasn't painted and in good shape)i found a paint remover called,Davesspray on paint remover and it worked great!
nearchoclatetown
i'm assuming you mean wooden wheels. i used a piece of broken glass and a dull chisel to scrape mine. i'm not sure i would use stripper. it might hide in the cracks and crevices[sp?] and bleed into you new paint. Jan Arnett
Did a 36 Dodge have wooden wheels? If you do use stripper on wood wheels you do not want a stripper which will liqufy the paint because most wheels have a very open grain and you may cause the paint to leave a risidue in the open pores. I agree with earlier response on scrapping the spokes. If the 36 has steel wheels then a heavy paste stripper should be used and the wheel needs to be off the car laying down. I would strip the center portion and then sand the edges. If you do not want to remove the tires you can always deflate them and then use C clamps to seperate the casing from the rim and give you some room to work on the bead. just a thought.Jan
