mtl92
Hello, I've got my manual transmission apart a bit to replace the external seals and gaskets. To replace, the shifter selector seal and shift control rod o-ring, I'm trying to get the shift shaft lock screws out. The book says I need the tool KMO-44, which I don't have. I've tried with a screwdriver, which it recommends not doing, and can only get one of the four screws out. Anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance for the help!
mtl92
Nevermind that was a dumb question. I modified a screwdriver to fix and used a wrench on the screw driver. As a follow up, with not as dumb a question: lock tight when reinstalling?
NailheadBob
I use Snap-On flat tip screwdriver #SSD8 (it has a shank to use wrench up by handle end) and a 7/16" box wrench and works great I do not use Loctite, just the screw driver and box wrench. mtl92
Thanks, Nailhead Bob. I munged my selector seal so once the next one comes in I'll be reassembling!
john hess
I just made a tool for this myself. I used a 1/4 inch old craftsman chisel and ground to fit the slot in the set screw.. slow, and dipped in water often to keep it cool.... works great.... no locktight on mine either.
mtl92
Thanks everyone for your replies. I got another question. Do you all use sealant to attach the rear bearing retainer or just the paper gasket? Same question for the transmission to clutch housing gasket. Thanks again!
NailheadBob
I just use the gasket Bob
