In several states and provinces to go along with that, specific licence plates were issued for some of those vehicles pictured.  In addition to 'regular' number plates for cars and light trucks, there was 'Farm', 'Commercial', 'Urban', 'Bus' (city transit & intercity bus), 'School Bus', 'Livery' (taxi), and 'DU' (rental car) plates to name a few.  Some those later vehicles in the photos would have utilized those specific plates.  Here, for example, the sedan delivery labeled "Grocery Auto" would have 'Urban' plates, which would have cost less than standard plates.
