DA 6 engine differences

Per Dodge Brothers “Confidential Bulletin No. F-3” dated Feb. 15 1930 a new improved DA6 truck engine will be introduced. Memo stated this engine is best suited for the 3/4-ton, 1-ton, and 1 1/2-ton Trucks. It is designated as the new “Truck Motor” produced on a new separate production line.

  1. Any idea what were the improvements? I am not aware of any differences in displacement and horsepower of the DA-6. Could be possible that there is improvement in size of the main bearings.
  2. Any body have a DA-6 truck engine with a fuel pump. If so could you give a “H-xxx” motor number? I found there is a fuel pump noted in the “master Parts” for the DA-124 and U-124.

It might be that the announcement to the dealers was a marketing smoke screen.

I know of a member who has a DA6 in a DA124 Express Body

Eng# H1473xx but I'm pretty sure the change came a few thousand engines prior (from memory).

Will try and locate that info.

This member does not have the fuel pump in a DA124 Panel same as the donor engine in my truck now.

His Eng# is H1448xx

My original eng# was H1467xx and I believe mine should have had the fuel pump (from memory, could be wrong). Again, can't recall where that info is or how I came to that conclusion but will try and retrieve it if needed

I believe the answer is somewhere in the MPB if I recall.
I do not have the original engine for my truck, only my build card showing the engine #.

Let me know.

I believe the highest # would have been around H1508xx base on a few factors. The only way to prove that is to contact the Chrysler museum. I did try that a few years ago when I asked for the last DA6 engine produced and already asked what the last truck model was made in the E series frame #s but they will not release that data unless I own one of those trucks.

As for the casting #'s, I believe Eric Bannerman has collected much data on that and might be able to help.
