Safety wire

Anyone know why Buick opted for safety wire bolts throughout the engine? Were previous engines known for fasteners loosening up and dropping into the oil pan, or was this simply an abundance of caution?

Two years ago, I noted the previous owner laughably used copper magnet wire—and did not use the proper technique at that.

I attempted to do a little better job with aircraft safety wire and the appropriate pair of pliers.

Just curious what others have done as well. Now that the tappet assemblies have to come out again, I'll be removing all of the safety wire I installed. Oh, well.

I think there was a fair amount of safe than sorry going on at the time, especially in areas that weren’t easily seen
