Edward Boyd
May be a dumb question but on my 1918 Cadillac 57 there are three 1/2" bolts One on passenger side and Two on drivers side that screw into block. What do they do? I was changing the oil and mistakinly turned one out, I then heard a clink like something fell off inside, so i removed the pan and am not sure what im looking for .? Nothing in the pan, Im about to try and remove screen and look further up inside. Any ideas
hidden_hunter
There is a “shelf” in the casting on the type 61 about half way up the crank case that something could be stuck on I can’t recall if there was anything on the bolts into the block
Edward Boyd
I think I may have found my issue. The bolts are for draining the readiator fluid from the engine. When I was backing it out the float for the oil indicator fell at the same moment and caused a "clink". At least thats the therory for now. Ive ordered new pan gaskets from Olsens and will inspect above the screens today.
hidden_hunter
The type 61 has a different setup so can’t really comment if that’s the case
Bob McAnlis
Photos showing the bolt location would help significantly.
