djncarpediem
Does anyone know what vehicles this 8 cylinder distributor cap goes to? Thanks
Old buicks 2
fits a Dusenburg, Lincoln or Packard for various years. Can't really tell without measuring and looking at the index tab which appears to have been damaged. There were several variations of this cap, so positive ID from pictures is difficult. drwatson
My '38 Universal catalog lists this cap for a 1932 Lincoln. Auto-Lite part #'s IGL-36, IGL-30, IGL-1003. (There's no further info on part # IGL-2003, perhaps it's the complete assembly) Edited February 8, 2022 by drwatson added text. Peter R.
This is definitely a North-East cap that was used on 1933-34 Packards only (on N/E distributor 5033450). It is the last cap that North-East made, manufactured by Delco-Remy (Delco-Remy took over North-East around 1930). That's why it has two part numbers - a North-East P/N as well as a Delco-Remy P/N. It is not one of the Lincoln or Duesenberg/1928 Packard Delco-Remy caps that look very similar. They were used on series 4000 Delco-Remy distributors and are not interchangeable with the 1933-34 Packard cap. NE caps are usually black, DR caps are brown. ....and it is not the above Auto-Lite cap. The AL cap is also black but it is smaller in diameter and has different clip ears (the NE cap is furnished with the typical early Delco clip ears). However, NE caps are rare (all others too). Yours is a bit dusty and has a small clip but other than that it appears to be in usable sound condition.
Peter R.
The cap is a typical Delco-Remy design, although it had been sold as a North-East cap. It had two part numbers: Cap - North-East P/N 5033893 and Delco-Remy P/N 1848820 Cap Cover - North-East P/N 5033894 and Delco-Remy P/N 1848819 Early caps had a North-East logo, caps sold as Delco-Remy had a Delco-Remy logo. The cap was black. I‘ve never seen a brown 1933-34 Packard cap. All 1933-34 Packards (Standard and Super Eight) used this cap and it won‘t fit a 8 cyl. Delco-Remy distributor (Duesy, Lincoln, 4th Series Packard etc.).
Peter R.
In the 1933 North-East Parts Manual the cap is being offered with North-East part numbers. Edited February 13, 2022 by Peter R. (see edit history)
Peter R.
In the 1934 AEA catalog the part number of the cap had been changed to the Delco-Remy number. The part number of the cap cover remained North-East. Edited February 13, 2022 by Peter R. (see edit history)
Peter R.
In the 1936 AEA catalog both part numbers had been changed to Delco-Remy.
Peter R.
....and here is why the cap only fits a 1933-34 Packard North-East distributor. Delco-Remy designed North-East cap:
