alesco
I tried to put gas in my car tonight. When I turned the cap, it continued clicking but never opened. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remove the cap short of taking it in to the Buick dealer to have it removed? Will I need a new cap, or is the problem connected to the part connected to the gas tank?
NCBRIJEN
Sorry, sounds like you need to pry it off and buy a new gas cap.
Barney Eaton
As we all know, the gas cap is suppossed to ratchet when tightened. I would guess that mechanism has broken. So if you can imagine the safety cap on a paint can or medicine bottle. There is an outer part, the inner part and in this case, a ratchet mechanism between. Since the cap is broken, you can't hurt it. I would drill a 1/8 in hole through the outer cap about 3/4 in off center... and drill it at least 2 inches deep. incert a nail in the hole and hopefully the nail will lock everything together so it can be removed. If this works ... you could glue the nail in place and use the cap like that forever (unless your state checks gas caps)
Shelby
I had the same idea as Barney but Be Very Careful. One Spark and you will blow yourself to the moon. Use an air driven drill. Sparky

alesco
The cap wasn't frozen and I was able to pry most of the cap away, but did not have the leverage to remove the part locked into the gas tank. So I decided to bite the bullet and go to the Buick dealer and pay through the nose to have it removed by experts. After paying to have it fixed, I go out to my car and find the gas door taped closed. Apparently, the expert mechanics had no idea how to release the door, so they pried it open and broke the latch. It's funny that no one bothered to tell me and I had to find out for myself. They're supposed to fix it tomorrow. They won't admit to breaking it, but it appears they are going to fix it for free. If they give me any trouble, I'll let you know.
