Packardfrank
This is my first prewar car so I am unfamiliar with the construction techniques used. The door panels seem to have been attached with small tacks around the edge. How do I remove the door panel without damaging it?? Thank you
41 Su8
Use a flat spatula type tool. Slide the tool under the door panel and carefully pry the panel away from the wood. The heads of the tacks are probably small and may pull through the panel as you take the panel off. Another method is to take a fine needle and separate the fabric around the nail head and then remove the tack. Be careful not to break the thread when exposing the head of the tack. This is a tedious job and requires patience. If the tacks are into metal, they are probably 'drive nails' that have a twist to the shaft. Once the head of the tack is exposed, twist the nail out with a pair of dikes or side cutters. You might be better off if you let someone who has done this before to help you when you do this job.
