66wildcat
The post about the '65 Wildcat in Dixon, IL has me wondering: Where can a trunk floor be located for a '66 Wildcat convertible? Will anything from the Chevy full-size fit without major modification? Is there anywhere to come up with the frame / trunk mounts? The frame on my car is in good shape, but the trunk and mounts are in bad shape. I am getting ready to get the engine rebuilt and am planning new brake lines, painting the frame and undercarriage, but would like to replace the trunk first.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Steve SmithBCA 36617
Romy
Give Neil Freman of Fremans Auto in Montanna a call/email. I've gotten so much stuff from him it's nuts. He has really good prices on body parts (or so I think) but you'll have to wait on the shipping aspect for his driver to get to you. The driver goes out about once a month. I think his phone # is (406) 287-5436... and his website is www.fremansauto.comIf you want, you could tell him Romy with the 70 Buick told you about him...maybe he'll drop the price on a few parts the next time I need some. Guest
Steve, If all you need in the trunk is the upper panels behind the wheel wells and the lower floor braces CARS Inc. carries both replacement panels.
66wildcat
I checked with CARS, and they don't carry anything for 1966. They list up thru 1964, which I know is completely different.Hasn't anybody had to replace these? Every '66 Wildcat or Lesabre that I've seen seems to have this problem.I would love to find aftermarket replacements or good salvaged parts, but there is nothing to be found. If anybody can help, I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks,
Smartin
Steve,I also have this problem locating parts for my 71 LeSabre. Nobody makes sheet metal for this car because it's not in demand. You'd be lucky to find a guy that can fab metal well...that may be your best bet.In regards to finding parts in general, I have taken it upon myself to create a website that caters to the hobbyist in search of parts. I just registered the web address yesterday, but I have a pretty good list of suppliers ready to put on the site. I'm sorry I don't have anything for you right now, but maybe I can find a good source of these hard to find parts for both of us Check it out...I just uploaded the page tonight.www.buickpartsdirectory.comBTW - Where in St. Louis are you? (did I aks you already?)Adam
66wildcat
Adam,I'm on the southside, near Hampton & Chippewa, east of Ted Drew's.I wish that I knew how to do bodywork, because the trunk, trunk braces, and a little interior work is all it will need.I got a 425 from a '66 Riv GS, and the factory dual quads that I'm getting ready to start rebuilding. Right now, it has a '64 401, so I want to get the correct year engine in it. But the trunk really bothers me. There aren't any holes, yet, but you can see where it has been poorly repaired before.Well, I'll keep searching for something somewhere, or somebody that can fab it for me.Thanks,
Smartin
yeah...south I will look around and see if there is someone reasonable close to us. I just started a new website that attempts to cater to folks like you who are looking for resources to finish their projects.www.buickpartsdirectory.comI just started the site yesterday, so there may not be something there for you yet, but i'll definitely keep my eye out for you.Adam - St. Peters (West side )
palbuick
Hi SteveIf you will go back to a post 12/28/02, Trunk repair on 70 WildcatI think the same would apply to the 66s. Oldsmobile didnot have a body mount in the same area as the Buicks, usually the floor in this are is fairly solid. I was lucky with my 66 CAt the trunk floor was just starting and was able to repair it. Check out the olds, look for the same body series.Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com
