Road Hazard/Work Light, Original?

Have any of you ever seen one of these before?

It is a 6 volt powered combination warning and work light. Kind of an interesting piece, or novel at least.

Do you think it was a manufactured item or perhaps home built?

I can’t say whether it’s factory made or not, but if homemade it was well done in that post war utilitarian look... I would guess it was an early attempt at a flasher to replace smudge pots that didn’t have enough battery life to catch on.

Might be from an emergency vehicle. Our fire station had a bunch of similar old lights that were replaced over time. About 20 years ago the city came in and cleaned out everything in the storeroom. They didn't give any warning, just showed up one day and cleaned it out.

I think Mark and 46 are pretty close to what that thing is.  Whatever it is, it looks pretty cool.  Are you going to bid on it?  If so, and you won it, I bet you'd be the only kid on the block with one.
