I think I remember from my 84 that the mechanism contains a perforated nylon tape that can dry out and crack apart leaving the motor to spin with no operation. I took it to a glass shop back in that day and they had a roll of the tape and fabricated a fix.  Dale

Remove lower seat cushion.  Top down. loosen rear interior panel (no need to remove just loosen the top for access)  Remove the two nuts on the top and get a very long extension (I welded a socket to a long pipe) to get the single bolt on the bottom.  When the three bolts are out the whole assembly with glass, motor, and frame will lift from the top.  Probably the nylon tape you can still get replacements as it was used in many different Manufactures for a while.
