56 Buick
Hi all If you were looking at fitting air conditioning to a non PS car (that is a car with a single pulley on the harmonic balancer), can you simply use the double pulley from a PS car instead? And what do you need to be mindful of in regard to condition of the double pulley? Thanks
old-tank
You will need double pulleys for the water pump and generator, in addition to the crank/balancer. 2 single pulleys separated by 5/8" spaceer for the water pump and crank will work, but those are harder to find than double pulleys. 56 Buick
Thanks. Ah yes, I forgot about those pulleys. And if any pulleys have slight rust pitting on the belt surface then does that make them unserviceable or can they be cleaned up without issue? "Light" rust can prolley even come off with use. Junkyard or backyard cars have sat long enuff at this point, in some cases, the bottom pulley rests right in the mud. Ive seen daylight thru some! If you have 2 sand to much(sand blasting is preferred) you can thin the pulley metal. Buy the best you can and ask 4 closeup photos. Some cant tell when they are junk? Just a caveat. Good luck! Guest
Russ Martin's Centerville Auto Repair is now offering some new reproduction pulleys for Nailhead engines. An ebay store is also available. Good used parts are becoming harder to find so thanx to Russ for providing parts and info. From personal experience he has also been an honorable guy with integrity in our dealings. Something I find more valuble and scarce these days. U can google buickrodder.
