moran75
Hi all managed to source a new replacement alt here in the UK for my 65 Riv ....only thing is that Ive been told it has an internal regulator.... Any thoughts as to how that would effect existing wiring /existing external regulator? i don’t mind leaving it there...but it’s the impact on existing wiring I’m looking into.. thanks in advance kev Edited June 25, 2019 by moran75 Mistake (see edit history)
steelman
Kev, there are at least three different internal regulators, and wiring changes will depend on which you have. Look at the back where the wires plug into the top of the alternator. Should be two spades. Are these vertical or horizonal? Your old alternator had about a 3/4" square hole with two vertical spades. Rear case is different if these are now horizontal. Is this a self-igniting or diesel alternator? Also called a one wire alternator? These are popular on street rods as it simplifies the wiring. Picture of the back of the alternator and maybe the box it came in might help get you good answers the first time.
