65 Riviera fuel gauge Q

My gauge cluster is now looking better than ever after I gave it a makeover. I am happy with the outcome. After putting it back together I went for a 25 mile cruise & my fuel gauge never moved…WOW…my EFI must be saving fuel haha.

NOT…it turns out my fuel gauge is not working haha…always something right?

With the help of one of our forum brothers (Alini) we were able to narrow it down to the actual gauge. I have a lead on a replacement used one tomorrow. Fingers crossed that one works

If not, is there any other GM (Buick/Chevy/Pontiac) fuel gauge that will work in our First Gen Riv’s? I would like to try a brand new gauge next if the used one I get doesn’t work.

The gauge is grounded through the gas lines.  Make sure you have a good ground.  When I dropped the tank on my 64, I made a dedicated ground wire and connected it to one of the hold down screws for the sending unit.  The other end was connected to a new screw that I screwed into a newly drilled hole in the floor pan under the back seat.
