53 New Yorker
Hello, Does anyone else have a early Chrysler with a tight (Frozen) Gemmer Steering box. Mine must have had problems before, because now that I have it apart... I can see where someone took a monkey wrench to the inner column. It looks like the die-cast bushing has started to "grow" and disintegrate and is "squeezing" the column, causing it to bind up. Also... how do you get the gear off the shaft, in order to take it out if I can find someone who will machine a new bushing Any suggestions for a repair to this would be appreciated. Cheers, Willliam
24Chry48
Odyssey Restorations in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota fixed my 24 Chrysler, same problem as you have. The original bushing swelled and they replaced it with a brass one and the steering is great. Greg
hchris
The shaft end gear needs an awful big press to push the gear off, in my case it took 7 tons of pressure to get the old bush out.
