HELP!!!??? - Rallye 350 carb

Does anyone know the correct # for the carb that came on the 70' Rallye 350? I need a new carb and the one that's on it now came from a 455 - thanks for any info

The 1970 shop manual indicates 7040250 for all 350 AT, MT with or without A/C.

The Delco carb book I have, in bulletin 9C-5028 dated November 1971, indicates it could also use the 0255 carb which was the W31 carb <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" /> ? and there's always been a question about whether those cars could be had with W31.

Thanks alot for the info - maybe now I can get me a new carb and get her up and running again - I have also read where there is a debate over whether the very first few of the Rallye's were made with the W-31 - wonder how true this is? - mine was produced in Feb of 70 - very first month of production on the Rallyes - who knows, maybe I'm driving one of those W-31 Rallye's and just don't know it - it's nice to dream - lol - thanks again

The factory says no W31 Rallye 350s built. The Rallye 350 Club says 12. Offering the W 350 in the Rallye seems counterproductive as it was designed as an insurance fighter. No big-block, no specific body style, nothing to give away its intent as a junior supercar. An Oldsmobile RoadRunner as it were.

Of course, its original incarnation was supposed to be the 1970 Hurst/Olds and it is designated as RPO W45, same as 1968-69 Hurst.

Interesting - I wonder who is actually telling the truth? How would you know if a Rallye was a W-31 Rallye? - Also, do you happen to know how many 4spd Rallye's were produced? Just wondering - thanks

Hey, don't know if you have recieved the info yet. But the Rallye 350 carb

does have part# 7040250 or 255 depending on A/C or not. The W31 question is one of those bigfoot tales. The car was a light low dollar "Roadrunner" type of deals. The W31 engine cost was too high to waste its power in the Rallye. I have had a fascination with these cars for years now and have owned 1. You also have to remember that the engine was just a Cutlass Supreme 4 barrel engine with a little bit hotter cam and dual exhaust. The ram air didn't really do much for it. Just a visual thing along with that paint job.

I agree with the last post....we drove these things as company cars back in the day! They did not sell very well at the time. We affectionally called them Yellow Bananas and most of the Olds employees in Chicago did everything they could to not get one as a company car! I hate to say never as a lot of very interesting things went out of the factories back then but a peroformance option on the 350's is not offered in any of the literature I have ever seen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />
