Mid 20's Buick transmission input shaft seal

It was suggested to me that it would be a good idea to install a lip seal on the transmission input shaft of my 1925 Buick Standard.  I am thinking that this could be good insurance to help prevent  getting oil onto the clutch faces and also keeping additional oil off the garage floor.   I plan to put the input shaft into a lathe just to smooth out the area that the seal will run on, but it is not really rough, and I think you might get away not bothering touching the input shaft, but mine is out.  The clutch throw out bearing holder is a rough cast area where I want to install the seal, and this part would be best to clean up on a lathe.  I don't know how many years back you can go with this design, or when Buick started putting transmission input seals into their cars.  The oil seal is under $25 with shipping.   I will post a few other pictures when it is installed.   Hugh
