Guest
Warm day here, bulbs starting to show, lilacs budding out and nothing to do. I was reading about valve timing in my 22nd edition of Dykes. Did you know "one half teaspoonful of kerosene inserted around the valve stem at least once a week while the engine is running will keep the valve free from carbon and prevent it from sticking in the valve cage." Brian_Heil
A similar comment is in the early Buick literature too. Read it other places too. If the car has been sitting for an extended period of time and had limited lubrication, you can 'tonk' each stem with a nylon hammer to see if the valve is stuck. Only takes a minute. My '23 had felt washers on the valve stems when new, to assist with lubrication, most are long gone, mine all gone. I replaced mine last year. DonMicheletti
Brian, In the above photo, are those the original '23 valve springs?
