Guest
Does anyone know if in 1970 Olds made a pace car replica that was not a 442 model, but a cutlass with a 350 in it. Any info would be helpful
rocketraider
Yes indeed. They're actually more common than the 442 version. To verify it IS a Pace Car, look for Y74 on the body data plate underhood. If it has that code, it is a Pace Car whether it has 455, 350 or a bastard replacement engine. Guest
Rocketraider:Did you get to see the actual 1974 Hurst Olds Pace Car at the RE Olds Museum? It is owned by a car dealer from North Carolina. They had more actual Oldsmobile Pace Cars for that display than at any other time.
rocketraider
I have had the pleasure of riding in that car. An even greater pleasure would be to actually drive it , but I doubt I could ever talk Rooster Bush into that. It's only a couple hours from here. Once me Pace Car is done, I want pics of the two together.Couple years back I took the Hurst to a local show in Stuart VA, figuring I would have the only Indy Pace Car replica there, much less one documented as having been at Indy for the 500. Placed it on the field and be damned if the local Chevy dealer didn't trot out a Brickyard Monte Carlo and set it right next to me. And most people didn't even realise the Hurst WAS a Pace Car, since the door graphics were lost in a late 70s repaint. Anyway- the show promoters and sponsors got some mileage out of their little Blue Ridge Mountains show having two Indy Pace Cars on the field. Guest
Rooster Bushs 1974 Pace Car is believed to be the only remaining "actual" Pace Car from 1974. I had a chance to ride in it also. It is a very powerful car. I also had a chance to ride on the track at Indy in the only remaining "actual" 1970 442 Pace Car, what a thrill.
