edselsouth1 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Found this in my stash : triangular glass jar, no lid present, has a nice bracket and the mounting screws. Approx. 3" across corners on bottom, approx. 8" high. Embossed on bottom: Patented, Ford Canada, 1961, 2. Adell Chemical Co. Detroit Mich. Bracket has Adell Chemical Co., Detroit Mich, inscribed on inside center. Thinking it may be an underhood container for washer antifreeze. Opinions? Pictures enclosed. Guest Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Spare windshield washer fluid bottle and holder. Mounts under the hood , usually on an inner fender skirt.
edselsouth1 Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) Tinindian....Thank you. I was close. Most similar jars I have seen have been of a slightly larger size, but may not have been strictly for an extra amount of fluid. This one is a bit too new for application on my 1960 model car. David. Guest Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Not really too new. I started working in a GM dealership parts department in 1959 and we had these available in the 1960 model year. I don't know how long it may have taken Ford to catch up, or maybe they were there before GM. They really were for extra fluid as the early reservoirs were not very big. Of course with the pump bulb on the floor you had control and didn't waste fluid like today.
Larry Schramm Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) I know Buicks in the early 60's had them. I had one on my '63 Buick Special. Edited October 12, 2017 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)
m-mman Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 This type of triangular washer fluid bottle was standard equipment under the hood of every 1966 full size Mercury.
Larry Schramm Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 I have the plastic replacement in the garage without a label if you would like to see it.
