Column shift rod broken

I cannot shift my 41 Special. It appears from eliminating many things that one of the rods in the shift column has broken. Has anyone experienced this before? Also, has anyone attempted to fix it themselves? Not sure where to start. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Have you inspected all the linkages?

Especially at the transmission. The holes and rods can/do wear

The page attached is for a 1940, but will not be much different (maybe 100% the same)

1928-52 Master Parts Book pg 118-A.pdf

Download the 1942 Buick shop manual. All of it section by section. The pdf link does not work.

It is very comprehensive and has information that can be used with all straight 8’s.

It has more information than was included in older “Shop Manuals” before 1942-41

If you need parts Dave T is one to try

I don't know if this will help but I recently lost both 1st and reverse. The front end had been jacked up for a couple weeks awaiting a master cylinder that was being rebuilt.

I pushed it out of the garage and drove to The Transmission Shop and we put it on the lift. A cotter pin that attaches the 1st/reverse rod to the transmission had fallen out. Did you check to see if your 2nd/3rd rod is attached to the transmission?

(previously posted in old discussion by error).
