John_S_in_Penna
Car registration was evidently expensive in those days-- in New York at least, and probably in many other states. Inflation has increased prices approximately 14-fold since then, so the $17.50 annual registration for a car in 1928 equates to about $240 per year in today's money! And if someone had a 5000-pound car, the annual charge would have been $28.75 per year then--$400 in today's money. Clearly, the good old days weren't always so good, and I'd rather have today's modest registration charges!
