1946-52 Buick Air Cleaner - Good Condition

Up for sale is one used Buick 1544638 air cleaner assembly, in “as-is” condition. Please scroll down to see photos of it. You can click on the images to see larger views.

 

My father had purchased this many years ago, though he never owned a Buick. He must have noticed that it was in good condition and picked it up. I have no need for it and am losing some of my storage, so it needs to go.

 

The digits “544638” are still legible on the stencil located on the oil bath housing. I think that it is a pretty safe assumption that 1544638 is the correct part number. “SER-50” is also part of the stencil, possibly identifying it is an assembly for a Super model. I identified the air cleaner using my 1953 Buick Chassis Parts Catalog. Here are the applications listed in group 3.402 for the complete air cleaner, in reverse order:

• 1950-52 Special and Super

• 1949 Super with Dynaflow transmission, after the following frame numbers:
  • 15244363 Flint
  • 25205576 California
  • 35211509 Linden
  • 45254014 Kansas City
  • 55258437 Wilmington
  • 65261075 Atlanta
  • 75229689 Framingham
• 1946-49 Special and Super (for use when replacement engine #1390885 or 1390886 has been installed)

Overall, the air cleaner is in very good condition. There are no major dents, dings or scratches present. Obviously, it will need to be refinished, but there is no heavy rust or perforations. The majority of the surface rust is on the body of the silencer. The mesh inside the oil bath is tight and in good condition. The support clamp and air horn clamp are both present. The bolt with wings is in good shape. Both of the gasket within the oil bath will need to be replaced. I see no real problems with it.

 

My price is $50.00, plus shipping and optional insurance. The air cleaner is not heavy for its size, just bulky. I will be glad to provide shipping quotes at your request and will do all I can to keep your shipping costs low.

I would really like to move this air cleaner. I have no use for it, but it is way too good to put in the scrap heap.
